Local Teens Travel to Scouts Canada's ADVenture 2012

Fredericton, NB – July 28 – Next week, 24 New Brunswick youth will be taking part in ADVenture 2012, Scouts Canada’s first-ever National Venturer Scout Jamboree. From June 30 to July 7, these youth will join over 500 of their peers from around Canada in a week of unsurpassed high adventure in the backwoods of Ontario. Youth from Fredericton, St. John, St. Andrews and Moncton will be represented in New Brunswick’s contingent.

As the first event of its kind, ADVenture 2012 will provide previously unmatched challenge and excitement for Venturer Scouts aged 14 to 17, all located at the picturesque Haliburton Scout Reserve. Youth will be faced with various challenges, including an overnight hiking expedition deep in the wilderness. A long distance mountain bike will test their endurance, while a canoe Olympics will challenge their skill and teamwork. A GPS trek will demonstrate their ability to navigate in the backcountry while completing survival challenges. Other activities will include rappelling, archery, rock climbing, kayaking, marksmanship and voyageur canoeing.

The Venturer Scouts particularly look forward to camping on islands for the duration of the event, with the canoe as their only means of transportation to and from civilization. As the majority of them have never taken part in a national Jamboree, they look forward to meeting like-minded youth from around the country.
