NB Youth to be Recognized for Scouting Achievement

Fredericton, NB – November 2 – Over 30 outstanding youth will be recognized at Scouts Canada’s annual New Brunswick Awards ceremony this Saturday, November 3 at the New Brunswick Legislative Assembly Building. The Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick, His Honour The Honourable Graydon Nicholas, will present youth with the highest awards attainable in Scouting, the Chief Scout Award and the Queen’s Venturer Award.

The 1st St. Michael’s Scouts and Venturer Scouts (Moncton) will also be awarded the prestigious Pioneer Award for completing the most exciting and innovative outdoor adventure in the past year: a multi-day cycling trip from one end of PEI to the other.

Award presentations include 26 Chief Scout Awards, 2 Queen’s Venturer Awards, and 8 Medals of the Maple for Distinguished Youth Service. Additionally, two Scouters will be awarded recognition for 60 years’ service to the movement, and four Scouters will be recognized for exceptionally distinguished service. 

Wes McLean, the MLA for Victoria-Tobique and a 1995 recipient of the Chief Scout Award, will be in attendance.

Members of the media are invited to arrive at the Legislative Assembly building between 1:30 and 2:00 pm. The ceremony will run from 2:00 to 3:00 pm, followed by an opportunity for photos and interviews. Official photos will be available after the ceremony, upon request.
